Stout H/C Combo on my C5
Hey guys, Ive had my car back from the shop about a month but I hadnt posted anything yet. We had a rocker arm break on us two weeks ago. It was a Scorpion brand rocker and I just wasnt a strong design, not enough meat. So, I upgraded to some Harland Sharps. Anyway, just before that I took it to the 1/8mi track at Irwindale. I couldnt hook up with the Nitto Extremes, even @ 15psi. So, I couldnt stall and launch it hard out the hole but we did okay. Here are the mods and times:
2002 A4 Coupe
AFE CAI, 90mm Fast intake ported, 90mm tb, trick flow heads milled to 60cc 11.3:1 comp, 228/234 112 cam, Harland Sharp rocker arms, patriot gold springs shimmed, 3600 stall Yank tc, 3.42 gears, tuned by LSX Master George Chavez @ Express Auto.
1/8mi Time
RT .919 (horrible I know!)
60ft 1.76
330ft 5.04
1/8mi 7.64
MPH 95.01

Its to bring up the valve pressure so that you dont get valvefloat at high rpm's. I already had those springs so instead of buying new ones we were close enough on pressure to just use shims. Gotta know what youre doing cause they do take a little lift away, gotta make sure youre still in the green.

it depends on what cam you are running, and what they recomend for seat pressure and open pressure. you need to know what they recomend for seat pressure first, and know what pressure the spring is rated at what installed hieght.the spring will say something like (just an exaple) 225# @ 1.800, so at one point eight inches the pressure will be 225. if its installed at a lower hieght(1.750) it will be more compressed thus more seat pressure, higher(1.850)= less pressure, its the installed hieght that matters, this will vary head to head, depending on how the spring pocket is prepped and what valve is in it. there is more to proper spring hieght than just putting them on or thro a shim under it........... you can also change the installed hieght with a differant offset keeper..........
