Default How much is a '00 Z-28 M6 worth?

I have the opportunity to buy a 70,000 mile Z-28 relatively cheap that needs a tranny. I plan on buying it and re-selling it. I need to see if it's going to be worth my while. I will be doing all the work myself.

Here's the deal: the trans is wiped out, it is fairly stock, only mods I see is a cat-back, it's a hardtop car, dark blue, body is very straight with normal wear and tear, it hasn't been washed in a 1.5 yrs and it still looks good, beige cloth interior, stock stereo, power windows, power locks, cruise, a/c etc.

So what's a car like this usually go for private party? I would like to take the chrome ZO6s off and switch them out for the black ZO6 wheels I have on my '01 SS.

Since you would have no way of knowing exactly what is wrong with the car i wouldnt offer any more that 5k maybe less.

In good running condition 7 is normal.

I know a guy at the dealership it is at. It came in because the previous owner blew the trans drag racing it. We spun the motor by hand and it still turns over.

That only tells you that the engine isn't locked up. It could still be messed up. does the car have electrical power so that you can cycle the starter or check all of the switches and accessories? If you can engage the clutch or bypass it you can start the car in neutral.

For beat on cars regardless of how clean they look, they hide many many other problems. $4000 tops. Me personally would be $3500. A tranny will be a grand or better.

Blew the trans from drag racing it? That's all I would have to hear to turn me away from a purchase. Obviously that car has been beat to hell and there is no way of knowing what shape the inside of the engine is, or the rear end for that matter. I personally wouldn't bother. I bought my Camaro because it was in show room condition and had NOT been beat on by the previous owner.

I'm not afraid to buy a car that has been to the dragstrip I'm sure more than 1/2 of the cars on this site have been drag raced. The guy who blew the trans only had the car for two weeks so I'm sure he didn't take it to the strip a whole lot in 2 weeks. It's not like it's a trailer park rag or something it appears to have been taken care of. You are right though about the internal condition, but unless it messed up at the same time as the trans the engine should be fine.

I paid $6500.00 for my 99 Z28 and there was nothing wrong with it mechanically and very little cosmetically. I had to replace two window stabilizers and I replaced the bezel around the passenger door handle as it had a small crack in it and I did not like that. And I replaced both front headlights as they were cloudy.

Besides that, the only other thing I have done is replace the drivers window motor about a month after I bought it.

How many miles were on it when you bought it?

Once I get this fixed I guess I should easily be able to get $7K out of it since it only has 72,500 miles

I just talked to the bank and they said that their bottom dollar is $3,000 on it. I don't know if it will be worth my time or not. I would like to make a minimum of a grand on the car and not have to hang onto it forever to make some money on it. What do you guys think?

I think I am going to buy it if it carfaxes clean and there is no/minimal undercarriage rust.
