Default Should I buy for this price???

Hi everyone. I am new here but wanted opinions on if its a good idea to buy this car I am looking at. It's a 2002 Trans Am WS6 automatic with 69k. It needs a bunch of work. I know it needs for sure as follows...

Headlight motors (grinding sound from both when closed)
ABS/Traction Control/Brake Light dash lights on
A new #2 coil pack (from what i was told) as the engine runs rough and hesitates
Both power windows dont work
No tailpipes on car
Door skin on drivers side is not secured well and is broke on the door edge
Power steering pump seems to be groaning bad at idle but works
Speaker in door is missing
Leather ripped on drivers side
Paint has dents/scratches all over
Needs tires real soon
Thats all I can think of at the moment...

Case and point, the car is rough. It looked filthy even when the guy was showing it to be so that goes to show that he doesnt take any pride in his car. The guy wanted $9000 at first, but after some negotiating, he would take $6000. It has a clear title, its just was sadly enough was not taken care of well. It seems the car would only take AROUND $500-1000 to fix. Plus, I was going to get a new exhaust with wheels and tires regardless at some point. Now I did want a manual 6 speed trans but I am thinking this is a pretty good price to not pass up on.

What would you do?? Buy this one at a good price and fix it up and deal with the auto that I didnt really want in the first place or hold out on a 6 speed in good condition with mods already and spend probably double?

Thanks for the input.

Have you driven the car? Sounds pretty rough...
Look into how much a manual swap is to help your decision.
Me personally I would wait for a cleaner car with what you want, I don't think you will regret it. I waited to find a NBM manual car like I wanted and have no regrets, I know I would have sold an auto car within a couple months out of pure boredom of having the car drive itself.

Ya it is rough. I had the guy drive me around for like 2 minutes and it was fair at best. Really the only reason I still have the car in my mind to buy is because of the price. I have seen people asking for a TON of money for the Trans Ams. But what you commened on... thats what I was thinking too. BUUUTT, was thinking if I did fix up the car a little, drive it for a couple months and maybe could sell it for a profit perhaps??? Just brainstorming....

The seller told you those problems would be $500-$1000 to fix? Not a chance. And those are only the easy to spot visual problems.

People that don't even take the time to clean it up a bit when selling probably couln't be bothered to change the oil once a year, either.

I don't see this as a money maker. I would scratch up a little extra and look for a better one.

First off do you know how to fix all that? If not the labor alone will kill you. I buy and sell a lot of them and your talking about A LOT of work and money to get that car right. Besides how did it get that bad will just 69,000 miles????

You would be much better off just buying mine...its more but well worth the difference:

Money pit!! How could you even consider such a neglected car? I wonder if the oil was ever changed. $500-$1000 to fix up??

Very tough call in my opinion. For the price I would probably buy it and take a chance. I am like the others though, I just don't see how a 2002 with lower miles can be in that shape. I wouldn't be surprised if a 98 was like that, but not an 02. Without seeing it, I just cant judge but I know parts are not cheap. I'd say its up to you whether you are looking for a project or a car to drive tomorrow. As you said though, you will definitely pay well over double for an 02 is good condition.

FYI: Just reading what is wrong with this car makes me mad. Who buys an 02 WS.6 and treats it like that??? Come on!

Yeeah, stay away. I bought my 99 T/A with only a busted tail light for $3500, and I got my MINT 98 formula for $6000. Definitely deals out there, don't buy something you'll hate later when its falling apart.

It's not THAT far for a car you're looking for in the kind of shape you're looking for. They stopped making these cars in 02...8 YEARS ago. So it's time to start looking NATIONALLY for them and not so much locally. Too many people don't take care of their cars, or have wrecked them. You're case in point.

I would run from that car, sounds like a capital POS. If those are the problems you are told about and see. You're only going to find more once you actually purchase it and then your SOL.
