Default would you say he got ripped off

my buddy, who knows close to nothing about f-bodies, or cars in general just bought an 02 mmm hardtop z28 with 120k on it, bald tires and a near empty gas tank. it looks like somebody drove it behind a gravel truck for 500 miles. he paid 6k for it, im thinking he got ripped, but he says its a good deal. what do yall think, good deal.

If it's mechanically sound then it's about average.

mechanically sound maybe, i tend to stay away from cars with tires so bald you can see the wire poking out the sides

I think 4k-5k would be more reasonable IMO

Its a driveable Fbody with 120K...they all look like they've been driven behind gravel trucks and most have bald tires....

I'd say he over paid....but if its mechanically sound otherwise it might have been an average deal. If it breaks down soon, he definitely got screwed, lol. Did he even really inspect the vehicle? With 120K most Fbodies aren't very well kept to begin with.

Its really hard to tell without more information and pictures. Also the area will have a great impact on the value of the car, as does the time of year, usually around this time cars sell for a little more then they would in the winter. Any car with 120k isnt going to be perfect but as long as the body isn't screwed up I would say its around average price. Ive seen better deals, while Ive seen people pay a lot more for a similar car. It being a 2002 helps its value a little bit too

Another thing to consider is that Z/28's vary the most from any trim in a F body. They come with bear minimum with cloth seats and manual windows, to fully loaded with power everything and a cd changer. All of those things will have some impact on the overall value of the car

With this added information it sounds like he paid too much. Unfortunate.
