98 Trans Am Question buy or no
New to LS1 Tech ,
Looking to purchase a 98 Trans Am with 80k not a WS6 . LS1 auto
Guy is asking $5k always garaged with interior being excellent condition
Paint has no chips and is original looks great also , black
Car has the no start issue , its not the VATS or crank sensor but thinking more towards the ignition relay.
It did start after a full battery charge and trying 4/5 times but when i shut it off same issue cranks but wont fire.
Well my question is is it worth the money ?
He is willing to negotiate.
Any feedback would be great

I bought my clean m6 for $5500.
This could be a great deal if it's something small, but could also be a nightmare. Get someone else to look at it to decide. It's always a gamble buying a used car, but if the price is right.....

I bought mine for 5500 also, and it startsed and ran like a dream id be leary about it not starting, cud be easy fix, or as mentioned a nightmare. Used cars are a gamble, but odds are better if it starts and runs off the bat. Maybe tell him get it fixed at a good shop, and ull talk.

Common sense says if he could get it fixed for a cheap price he would have already since either a.) he would have kept it, or b.) could have raised the sale price due to less concerns. I will +1 with bringing it to a shop to have the issue diagnosed. At worst you pay $200 to know what you're getting into, or $200 to save yourself thousands down the road. Before I bought mine I took it to a basic muffler place I trusted to look over the inspection aspect, and a performance shop to eyeball the more specific Fbody parts.

Excellent advice here!
Spend the money upfront for a professional mechanic's appraisal. Anything up to $1,000 to make it right and drive well would make this T/A a good deal. The mechanic can also spot any other problem areas which you can use to negotiate further.
A few other questions: Is the title OK? How are the tires? Tires get pricey right off the bat if they are needed at $600 - $800+ depending what brand you buy. Good luck!!
