Default 2004 GTO value

Quick question about the value of my 2004 GTO automatic. It's time to get a more practical car and i'm considering my options; either storing it and fixing it up myself over the years or selling/trading it in. It has 150,000 miles with religious oil changes, but the car itself shows the wear of all those miles. KBB says I shouldn't expect more than a grand or so as a trade in and a local mechanic suggested I post here as there might be a market for the car just for the engine alone, despite the high mileage. Any thoughts?

I think you made a mistake on the trade-in value. I had to look it up myself and a 'fair condition' GTO like yours should bring about $3,000 in trade, especially if you buy a much more expensive car. Selling it yourself should bring you around $5,000, certainly in the $4,000 range after negotiations. I'm talking a 'fair condition' car now. It it's poor then my pricing is too high.
Good luck with everything.

He is right on target. I would give her a good bath and hand wax job, armour all inside and wheels etc and put on crailgslist for 5900 obo and see where it goes. You just might surprise tourself bc jt is an ls motor.

Yeah, I used "poor condition" just to have a floor value and make sure I didn't go to a dealership with high expectations. Thanks for the responses.

Definitely sell it yourself; the dealer will screw you on trade in. I'd suggest listing it here and on craigslist. I don't know where you are located, but around here where I am, LSX hold their value pretty well. I'd fix what you can cheaply and clean it up as best as you can. Around my area I'd put it out there for $6500, and take the first person who brings over $5k in cash.

**** you guys are lucky, around here 10k is bottom dollar for a clapped out gto. For 5 grand I'd be tempted to buy a plane ticket and fly to pick on up.

I'm in Harrisburg, pa. I've had a few bites in the 4k area, but i'm trying to hold out for the 5k-6k range. I'm not sure I wouldn't take you up on that offer savage388.

I can't believe no one has picked it up, I've been debating whether to sell my camaro and what to get, I gto seems like a decent compromise for what I need, but prices were crazy when I looked. Butso are fbody's in the Altoona/ Pittsburgh area.

I've received a few serious offers, but like i said they've all been in the 4k range. And I also just started shopping the car around. Hopefully somebody hits the magic 5k number.

Got some pics of it? Hell I can get almost 5 from my car and can come up with the rest. Of course it's all just window shopping till my camaro sells though

O/p hold to your guns at 5k. Thats a fair price, anything under that is too low imho. If it were a manual you could add another 1500 to that and get it pretty quick.
