Default Is a 255-45-17 tire to small for a 17"x9.5" rim

Wanting to run 285-40-17 rear tires on my 17x9.5 rims, but i dont want to run that wide a tire on the front. Can't run 275's on the front cause the ABS will be flakey due to different diameter.

I can however run 255-45-17 on the front and the rollout will be neary the same as the 285's. But will it look like its too small and stupid on the 17x9.5 rim?

Thanks guys.

It will be fine. The tread width will not mess with the ABS.

Thats fine. I'm running 275 on the rear & 245 on the front right now b/c I got the 245's for free & I like the smaller tire up front. Car doesn't seem to follow every crack in the road as bad as the wider tire.

Thats the reason I want smaller up front. Better tracking and less wandering.

285-40-17 rollout is 81.61"
255-45-17 rollout is 81.79"
So no issues with ABS.

Your difference in diameter is comming from your sidewall height. Your mixing a 40 series & 45 series. So that will give you 2 different diameters. But with them that close it should not be a issue.

A good example of a possible issue causing difference would be running a 285/45/17 out back & a 245/35/17 out front. That might throw off the geometery just enough to cause the ABS light to come one. But your current choice should be fine.
