Default wheel widening

I know a lot of us like our factory wheels but want them a little wider. There seems to be mixed feelings if they will be strong enough once welded back to gether. From what I can find the average cost is a little over $200.00 per wheel. What is the feasibility of taking the wheel to someone with a CNC machine and having them make a copy of the wheel 2" wider? That would ensure the rigidity. Any idea what it would cost?

It appears that you're saying you want to take a chunck of aluminum roughly 20"x 13", and make a 1 piece replica of an existing wheel, only a couple of inches wider.

I can certainly appreciate your thinking, in that it would be stronger and truer than a "widened" wheel. However, I would think that unless you have a friend, a REALLY GOOD friend who has some serious CAD and CNC machining equipment available for their use, I think the cost would cause you to pass out. Just the couple of chunks of aluminum, purchased by an individual rather than a large quantity that a manufacturing company would buy, is going to be big bucks.....

It IS a good theory, though!

Too bad we can't drive on theories! I've got a ton of them that result in 300mph supercars!!!

Thanks for bringing me back to reality.

Yeah, I had custom wheel adapters made by a machinist for my WS6 to fit on some '09 Vette wheels, and the guy WAS a friend. The adapters still cost $250 for just the 2 rears. Granted, they are of the BEST possible quality, but regardless, I could have gotten some off of E-bay for $70.

Yeah, but I'd rather spend $250 on the best then go cheap and take the chance of them breaking...
