Best (Stickiest) nonDR 245/50/16
There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of choice in 245/50/16 and I need new rear tires. I don't have extra wheels or storage room for them so having cheap dailies + DRs doesnt work for me. I dont need super wet traction but I dont want tires that drive like 555Rs in the rain (can't risk being in the middle of I4 and a random Florida rainstorm flooding down on me). I'd buy some regular 555s but they don't make them in my size. Checked on KDWs, discount told me they don't make them in my size.
The best I can seem to find are Firestone Wide Ovals. Anyone have any better suggestions, or ever used those tires before?
Car is an 93 Z28 that only runs 13.3@104 (on 245 Kumho ASX) so I dont need massive amounts of grip. Just need new front tires so moving these to front and get ones that don't spin like crazy (can consistently get 2.0 from them but nothing better, M6 car)
Oh, and super longevity isn't a concern.

I want to just grab some 555Rs. But Im afraid of getting caught in the Florida rain with them. Some people have said they can just pump them to 30psi and they drive fine in the rain as long as you don't push it. Is that true?

Freakin cheap too....320 mounted on my car. So I sure don't feel bad laying down stripes.
But if you really want traction i'd go DRs.

Just got the Wide Ovals. The 555Rs are out of stock and the lack of life scared me away since I cant afford to go through alot of tires. $109 each for Wide Ovals. Have about 4-5 miles on them so they dont stick well yet but they stuck better after 4 miles than the Kumhos did after 5000 10 roll on left tread on one tire for a short bit, but thats on a crap grade of road (25mph zone). Then a 15 after the 10 (so they had a little heat) barely spun.

I believe so. They were on my Camaro when I bought in April but they were worn out, and blew out a month later, so they had been on there for a while (car had been sitting for sale for 6 months and with them being worn, I would think they were a few years old)
I went out tonight for some fun. With ASX up front and the Wide Ovals out back, I was able to slide the car through a corner without nearly spinning it out. Then went to the middle of a nowhere, did a quick burnout (like 1.5 sec), launched it (on a road with a lot of gravel) and it hooked on that dirty, gravely street almost as well as the ASXs did at the track. Spun hard, backed out, held at 4k for a sec, then back to WOT. Car chirped second, where it used to spin them when going into 2nd. MUCH better driving now. ASXs work very well on the front and those Wide Ovals hook well for a full on street tire.
