Default Does anyone have an alignment tool for rent?

Looking to borrow a front end alignment tool (kit), for a week or so. Looking for the same sort of deal like the fender roller.

Hmmm...I have one, but I've never thought of renting out...what do you think a reasonable rate might be?

JMHO its not worth doing an alignment with one of those on the ground. Do they have turn plates for the front wheels to sit on? Without them, it is going to be very difficult to get them aligned properly. Plus having to jack the car up and down to make changes. Its only what 70 bucks for an alignment on a hunter machine?

...actually, the tool I have kinda looks like an oversized C-clamp...I got tired of taking my car to have it aligned locally only to find out they couldn't do a complete alignment because they didn't have this tool...I actually haven't used it yet since I bought it.

Does that sound like the tool you're looking for?

This is what it looks like, but NOT the brand I have:

tool is used to set caster and camber, but you may do the same adjustments with a pry bar, unless you just like to do things the hard way doing a alignment at home without a rack/turn plates/ some way to mesure caster and camber and something to check rear thrust you are not going to do a good/complete alignment

please except my reply as just my .02' I an not a "know it all " but I did only alignments at same shop 30 years and 9 months

I was thinking of the following:
- Two clamps that go onto the wheels on both sides.(used for adjusting toe)
- Caster guage
- Camber guage
- Turn plates
- The "oversized C-clamp" tool for F-body's

I wouldnt bother with renting all these tools. Go get an alignment at a well reputable shop. You will get more of your moneys worth that way. It will also save you from renting all these tools and then if something goes wrong having to take it somewhere and pay for it again.

Have you ever done an alignment?

I have had an alignment done by a GM dealership, they did it 4 times and now the inside of my front tires as wearing out. I know the specs that I want set, and I understand how set the up. I have never done it but it's not that complicated.

I also love when they take my car out for a spin!

Its a lot more complicated than you think. The worst part is knowing what part to move to move what. When your moving the lower control arm you are changing every angle when you move either one of the mounting points.

1. Caster
2. Camber
3. Place as much caster as you can with the desired camber.
4. Toe

If the car pulls either way adjust caster until car drives straight.

Did I miss something?
