Default 275/40/18 or 275/35/18

ok so if i have 285/35/18 tires in the rear, would it make a difference if i had 275/40/18 in the front or should i go with 275/35/18 in the front?

Would not look right with a bigger side walled tire in the front. If it were me i would get the same as the rear or switch them.

275/35/18 for sure, if you go 275/40/18 your front tire will be taller than the rear, which will look weird.
285/35/18=25.85"
275/35/18=25.58"
275/40/18=26.66"

I wanted to do 275 front, 285 rear on my Z06s, but I couldn't find tires I wanted in that combo.

thanks a lot, that really helps...does it really matter to get different brand tires for the front than the back? or is it just kind of a rule of thumb that you dont do that?

uuuuh no.. a 9.5'' is made for 275s. look up the tires you want on tirerack.com , go to the specs tab, and it will tell you all the recommended sizing.

275 can be mounted on a 10.5" rim. What you want to avoid is trying to squeeze a 315 onto a 9" rim...that's a bad idea.

A better way to look at it is, since you have a 10.5" rim, you could mount a wider tire, such as a 305. This would provide better traction, but also be a heavier combination. Up to you based on your budget.

so no problem with the 275 on the 10.5?, i just want to do it for the front cuz i dont want anything too wide up there...

i generally use the category to the right of that, the measured rim width.
