Default Opinion requested: 1 Vredestein vs. 2 Sumitomos

OK guys, here's my deal. I need rear tires, my 275s on the rear are on the wear bars and inspection is coming up. I have a set of 17x11s in the garage with one good 315/35-17 Vred, (the other got a nail in the sidewall) it's 75%+ tread left. The car is my DD and I need it reliable. I drive hard but appropriate for conditions. I have $200-250 to work with, which will buy:
1 matching Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta OR
2 Sumitomo HTRZ

The Vreds have no road hazard so if it happens again, I'm stuck again in the same pickle. The Sumis will come with road hazard so I'll get the full tread life out of them. However, the Vreds are a better, longer lasting tire. Anyone got their crystal ball calibrated? I'm thinking the Sumis may be smarter for a driver, but the Vreds are such a nice tire. Input please!

Get the vred and call it a day. Especially if you have them on the front.

I had sumitomos all 4 corners with the 315's in the back. With no mods the tires would hold until about 4k rpms in 1st gear and starting spinning horribly. Fast shift to 2nd gear slid the car sideways. The shoulders are soft too and corner like a "sports" touring tire. BUT they went over 20k miles with about 60% tread left. They do last if you want a stock alignment and plan to daily drive. If you don't do much racing or spirited driving then they are for you and I doubt you will know the difference except the spinning.

I have the Firestone Wide Ovals on the front (75%+ left) and love them. If they made a 315, I would get those hands down. That tire in a 275 sticks better than the 315 Vreds did, from a dig and in turns, especially in the dry. Both are awesome in the wet, have a quiet ride and good longevity. I got well over 50k on these rears too, awesome tire.

Problem is I am trying to be budget minded. The Wide Ovals in 275 cost virtually the same as the Vreds in 315, which is twice the cost of the Sumis. Both Firestone and Vred are great bang for buck tires and super high quality - tremendous value, I'm just trying to be as $$$ efficient as possible right now. If I can be judicious with my right foot , the more pedestrian Sumis may serve me better for now...especially if just sell the Vred to someone for a spare. I have been a magnet for nails and screws this year and getting the tire from a chain store with their road hazard and willingness to fix you up makes a difference. I think you guys may have helped me answer my own question.

Ryan, I appreciate your detailed response from your experience. I also DIG those meaty Kumhos you have - generally I am a subtle clean guy but in your case, no kill like overkill.

Do you have any suspension mods? Regardless, I think you need more tire...

Nice setup Ryan, Konis are on my list, wish I had done them first. Thanks for the input on the tire. I forgot the smiley on the "more tire" comment, but something tells me you figured that.

I've decided to run with the little Sumis, anyone want to buy a lonely 315Vredestein?

Basic HTRZs. Generally, IIs are more expensive and don't seem much better, IIIs are good but close to the price of the Vreds and don't come in a 315. Actually, only the HTRZs come in 315s.
