? for anyone running Nitto 555 or General UHP...
How do you like them?
I'm looking to get a new set of tires for my Formula (275/40/17), and have narrowed it down to those two for now.
I hear good things about the Nittos, and also some good things about the Generals. The Generals are also running a special, you get a $50 Visa gift card with a set of 4.
What I want to know:
How do they hook on the street?
How do they hook at the track?
How are they in the rain?
How do they ride/handle compared to you last set of tires?
And any other thoughts or suggestions would also be helpful. I'm open to other tires, these are just the front runners as of now.
What I'm looking for a is a summer type tire that's good in the rain, while being able to hook decently at the track. I don't race a lot, but I figure I'll hit the track about once a month this season.

Ive ran both. I currently have 285/35R18 nitto 555s, but I did run a 245/35R19 general UHP for a little while.
Now the nitto should have out hooked the general cause it was wider and had more sidewall, but it didnt.
I would recommend the UHP generals to anyone wanting a great performance tire, but not wanting to run a drag radial. And on the plus side the generals seem to be one of the lowest priced performance tire out there.
Go GENERAL................

O'yeah I also ran the generals in the 275/40R17 size u are thinking about getting, on my 95 Z28, last year. Hooked very well on the street, never took it to the track. You can stall it up and spin them just like any other tire but they get sticky fast and hook.

Thanks for the info.
Howdid they wear? Did one of the two last longer than the other?
And as far as the Generals, I read some reviews where people said the had a softer sidewall that felt "mushy" while turning. You ever notice that?

i have the generals on my benz in a 245/35/19 fr and 275/30/19 rear and they do have good grip but on mine where very noisey.
the rears where gone in about 12k miles but the fronts are still in good shape.
i would spend a little more and get a better tire in my opinion.
the nittos are a much better tire i had them on my old mustang and they where almost silent and they rode very good.
