Exclamation Street tires for 550+ RWHP???

I've got a 02 camaro with a procharger and forged internals. It's puttin out over 550 rwhp. It's got 18x10.5" wheels on back. Right now it has some worn out Kuhmo's, and when the boost starts kickin in, it just spins as long as your foot's in the throttle. This car is a collector/play toy. A few trips to the strip and a friday night warrior/show car. It will never see rain unless I'm accidently caught in it. I need a street legal tire that will hold this kinda horsepower but still have pretty good tread life. What do you guys reccomend?

imo neither of those will "handle" 550hp. both are good on the street but the mt dr's would be my choice

Yeah my wifes 99Z had the Nitto DR and they sucked. Her car is a auto with a full bolt ons. My SS is making 500rwhp and I was running the M/T radials and loved them on the street. They would rarely break loose unless I let the clutch fly at like 5k. Other than that they hooked up really nice.

I can't believe some of you guys..

Q: "I have 550rwhp and need a good tire, what should I go with?"
A: "I cannot tell a lie, Nitto 555s are what you need"

You're not going to get traction with that kind of power and ANY 18" tire on the street. But your BEST bet is going to be a set of M/T radials.

If you're barely going to drive it, then either MT dr's or Hoosiers (I'd go with Hoosiers). FWIW I have BFG dr's and they are fine with my cam/spray setup.

Well he wants thread life as well that's why they posted those two first answers. With 500+rwhp you can't get both my friend. If you want traction for that much power the mickey, hoosier, or BFG drag radials would be a good choice but you'll be giving up thread life. What does it matter though you don't drive the car everyday.....

As long as you're not trying to launch it hard from a stop then the Nitto 555R should work well, especially after they get warm.

No street tire/Nitto DR will handle that power. You get treadwear or traction, whichever you pick the other suffers so decide what you want. Treadwear = Nitto 555 and minimal hookage, Traction = M/T DR and alright treadwear. If it means anything to you I've had M/T's on my car for 6 months and they still look new, but its just a weekend toy.

I'm happy with my 17 inch M&Hs. I'll second 99.9percenter's choice.
