Default Basic backspacing question

I have a freind with an 81 Camaro who bought a set of Weld Draglites. They are 9 inches wide 15 diameter and have a 5.5 inch backspacing. When he mounts up a 28X10.5 slick the tire's sidewall contacts the leaf spring on the inside. Is the only way to move the tire out with less backspacing? If so and he orders a 10 inch width would he need even less backspacing? Thanks

You could use a spacer depending on how much it needs to be moved out. On my 72 Camaro (same chassis) my 315/65r-15 Drag Radials on 15x10s will rub the leaf springs unless I use a spacer. I use 15x10 5.5" backspace wheels.
