Default How do I roll my fenders?

Hey guys,

So recently I put on 315/35/18's.. yesterday I realized they were rubbing, when I was going decently fast down the highway with 3 people in the car. Any bumps or dips the rear tires would rub. You could hear it, and smell the rubber. When we stepped out of the car, there were strands of rubber flying off the tire. It cut the tire a bit but nothing bad.

I searched on "rolling fenders" and didn't find much. Do I need a tool? how do I do this?

Thanks!

You could rent a fender roller on here. You get a heat gun, heat up the paint, and roll them.

A lot of people just use a baseball bat. Or you could get a shop to do it for you. Until then, use someone else's car as a taxi.

How do you like the Toyo's?

My friend has a heat gun and has experience rolling them so all I did was find a shop that had one locally and rented the fender.

You can use a rubber mallet and a heat gun to accomplish the same thing.

Thanks guys. I love the Toyo DR's.. absolutely kickass. They launch great. I got a 4.1 second 0-60 with them cold. And when your flying down the highway, the hug the road HARD. no leaning or anything like my BFG's did.

you get an aluminum bat, wedge it between the fender and wheel and slowly push the lip up

I've heard that a wooden bat is better. I rolled my g35's fenders with a pvc pipe and it managed to roll it enough not to worry about it.

I've seen this done on 1st Gen. Camaros and they put on a pair of slicks since there softer and used a wooden bat because it has more give than a aluminum one. I don't know what the difference would be on the 4th Gens compared to the 1st Gens but maybe this will help.

The bat doesn't work very well on these cars. It is more of an old school thing with a wooden bat and thicker sheetmetal. Our quarters are more succeptable to creasing if your not carefull. I did mine with a hammer the way a sheet metal fabricator would. Warmed the paint with a heat gun and tiny taps moved metal slowly with tape protecting the paint. I'm sure the fender rolling tool would be nice as well.

So does rolling a fender push the fender out too? Creating somewhat of a flare?

Didnt for me, you just have to take your time. I guess if you pushed hard enough with the roller you could flare the fender, but it would probally distort the metal first

Be sure to cut the paint along the bend line. I lost a good deal of paint when rolling the lip but it was all on the inside of the bend line. Here's my experience using a borrowed fender roller. It was an easy thing to spray paint from a can where the paint flaked away Notice the fine line where I cut the paint with a razor.

Keep in mind that you don't need to roll much. I should have only folded abut 6 inches rather than the entire possible length.
