Discount Tire Co/ Discount Tire Direct is experimenting with this technology. I have a Nitrogen fill station here, and as testing continues they will start popping up in some of our most popular retail locations as well as all of our distribution centers

Commerical aircraft tires are filled with nitrogen for a few reasons:
less change in pressure related to air temp outside
no moisture
tire won't explode and cause a fire when overheated by the brakes or excessive friction
I could try experimenting this by going to my dads office and roll out a medicial nitrogen tank and get adapters to fit the air hose to the regulator on the tank and try it in my car.
But then how would you remove all the air in the tires you have now, it's going to be almost impossible to get every bit of air out inside to fill it up purely with nitrogen. Or it's just filled with nitrogen while the tire isn't inflated and a small bit of air remains inside.

Back when I was in college I helped a guy that ran the Nascar All Pro short track series, and he was **** about making sure all his tires only were filled with nitrogen. The pressures were affected less by heat buildup.

We use nitrogen in my friends Sprint Car and i have helped with a Craftsman truck team and all they use is nitrogen. The main advantage is that it will increase in pressure very evenly accross all the tires and so when the left rear increases the right rear will incread almost the exact same which helps to set up the car.

The pressure swing from heat is going to be entirely
from water (cold, condenses & pressure drops; hot,
the other way). You could just use dessicated air or
whatever. Most compressed air sources are kinda
wet, especially in humid climates.
Tire life might be improved by removing oxygen content
but, on these cars, wearing from the inside is usually not
the problem

Air is 78% nitrogen to start with. And it IS more the moisture content thing that causes the expansion.
Lighter? Yeah, 15% lighter in fact. For racing applications where every once is critical...sure!

Not to mention, the front end would come up a lot easier

Im gonna one up ya and fill my tires with Hydrogen Gas. This makes sense though (Nitrogen), I mean if some people are willing to replace all of their nuts and bolts with lighweight titanius, then this would be cool...
Pardon my ignorance but could you still use a regular PSI gauge, aren't some of them specially calibrated for air only>
