Default Anyone use metal studded winter tires?

Unfortunately I am going to be driving the T/A this winter so I am looking for some new rear tires. Has anyone ever used metal studded tires for the rear? I wonder how they compare to just regular snow tires. I bet a burnout at night with studded tires would look petty cool though. Haha.

I already have a beater that I am going to drive when there is a ton of snow on the roads but incase I get caught in a storm coming home from work I want some winter tires on the T/A. I was doing some research and I am going to buy some 16" firebird wheels and mount some Bridgestone Blizzak tires on it. From what I have read they are the best.

I have Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5s (factory studded) and they are absolutely amazing. http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=1...akkapeliitta+5

They grip amazingly on snow and ice...ABS rarely kicks in...no joke. The only problem with studded tires is that they don't grip so great on bare pavement....

BINGO!!

Wet pavement can be a "little tricky" with studded tires too!

I'd look into Blizzaks or Nokians (without studs), but be forewarned, either set up won't be cheap!

BTW, I'd recommend going with 225/55/16s..................

i have blizzaks on the wheel and tire package that tirerack offers. They are amazing, I go to school in pa and need the car all year round for work. Me and my buddy went to the philly autoshow and while we were there it dumped like 5" of snow on the ground. Drove through that on unplowed roads cause it was like 2 am and had absolutely no problems.

I bought a set of 16" x 8" chrome trans am wheels the other day for cheap because the chrome is lifing in a few places. This weekend I am going to firestone and I am going to have them mount Blizzaks on the rears and cheaper winter tires on the fronts.

I'm in the same boat as you. Only I need some 17" spares off of trucks or something.

Damn the snow.

Snow killed one of my salad shooters a few years ago. Replaced it... bought 10 spokes right after.

I'm running 225/55/16 Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3's this winter here in Vancouver - it's been raining hard on and off for weeks and we've been down to near freezing a few times - so far the tires have performed excellently in the (very) wet and cold.

I ran BFGoodrich Gforce SUPERSPORT "not the regular sport" A/S tire... they did awesome in the snow/ice when paired with the ASR.... Even without the ASR turned on they still were so very predictable when the traction was going to break. I actually had a hard time getting it to "accidentally spin out" it was always way easy to break back into line...
