It's that time again. I need to slap on a new set of tires. First thing is the car is a DD. If it were a nice weather have fun only car this would be a no brainer but the fact that I need it to handle the rest of the year makes it a different ball game.

I live in SC so I'm not worried about snow but we do get some freezing rain but that's about the worst. Right now I have BFG G-Force sports and will never buy or recommend buying them ever again. I want to have decent traction in nasty weather but I still want to be able to take a turn so I know I'm staring down a double edge sword.

My question is for those guys out there running the stock 275 wide tire what do you have and how do you like it?

you sound like you want a wet/dry tire. the obvious first choice would be the GS D3. the next step below that would be the BFG KDW. Id recommend the BFG being that it offers very similar performance to the goodyear for a lot less money. my car is a DD and im running 275 Nitto 555R tires. they work well in the rain, but are by no means meant for cornering

Weird, I have the 255 G-Force Sports on the rear and love them. I have had really good luck with Kumho and Continentals as well.

Were running Nitto NT555s on both of our WS.6s. My wifes car has 275/40-17s all around, and mine has the 315/35-17s on the rear. we both like them alot. They last a pretty long time, and they do pretty well in weather. Her car had 315/35 Nitto DRs on it for a while, and they werent that bad in the rain, you just want to be careful.

I would love to put on a set of Gs-D3s but the wallet says NO!

I saw the new Nitto NT-05 but I don't think I'll get the tread life out of them I would like to see.

I would say the Eagle F1 GS-D3 but they are mad expensive. I got mine on sale at tirerack a few months ago. If your budget is a little low, I would recommend the General Exclaim UHP. I had them in size 275/40/18 and they had very good dry traction, very good wet traction, good handling, and I believe they were only $195 per tire at tirerack. I would have bought them a second time but they GS-D3's that were on sale were actually cheaper than those, so that was a no brainer haha. I drove them year round and they lasted me maybe 20-25,000 miles I didn't keep an exact record.

All the models previously mentioned are great options. I would also take a close look at the new Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110. I recently tested this model on a 2008 Mustang GT and was extremely impressed with the dry handling and response

I have been very happy with my NT05s but yeah, the life will not be that good. I loved the KDWs I had a few years ago and then hated the GSD3s I "upgraded" to. I know I'm in the minority about the GSD3 but there it is.

I did some more looking. Any one run the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus or the Continental ContiExtremeContact DWS?

They both have mileage warranties on them but working in and Audi dealer and a Lexus dealer I have seen cars chew through them on the shoulders. The Continental has always come off to me as a softer tire and the Michelin as a harder tire. Plus they have a single A traction rating.

I'm just not sure how they would react to a Trans Am. The Audi's and Lexus's are pretty cambered out and not to mention, completely different.

I bought those to drive back from florida on(i needed something that would do okay on snow(compared to my nitto DRs))

They were a joke. I could roast them going into second (w/ just exhaust)...

My new setup im running 345 R6s in the rear...

I got 25,000 to 30,000 out of them. I would have some now except I wanted something stickier for HPDE use.

I have tried a few, and I'm staying with my firehawk wide ovals. They offer great wet and dry traction, and they are not really that hard on the wallet (I believe I paid 130/each for them new). If I want to hook more on the street, I just change over to my racing tires.

I DD my car with these tires while I lived in TN, and they held up to the TN winter (not saying much... just a few dustings of snow... never got too deep) just fine.
