Default Dunlop Direzza Star Spec 265/40/17 on stock GTO 17" riim:

I currently run Potenza RE-01R 245/45/17's, which I was more than happy with performanc-wise and size-wise: there footprint was 3/4" larger than the stock KDW 245/45/17. 22,000 commuting and abusing miles later it's time for new tires: the RE-01R's are discontinued and I thought I had room to go bigger so... I ordered the Star Spec tires I've been seeing winning all the top honors lately, in 265/40/17's size. Got them the other day and, WOW, are they much much bigger than I expected!!

With a tread width (tread, not sidewall) of 10.4"(9.5" 245/45 RE-01R), 24.5" tall (uninstalled of course, current tires are 25.5" w/50% tread).

took them to Tire Rack and had them test fitted: fit the rim just fine, and once installed are the same height as my worn the wear marker 245/45/17 RE-01R's. Speedo should be fine. I had them installed- on the ride home they rubbed lightly 2 times, both times when I was under accelleration and hit a bump in the road. Damned worn out sagging stock springs!! No problem though: this weekend I'm having Ellis from Speed Secrets install my Pedders zero drop springs w/drag bags -which would solve the problem by themselves- and having him roll the fenders with an eye towards the future and even bigger tires and rims.

Here's the video: (ignore the messy as all hell garage... it's on my To-Do List... right after 'Clean The Fish Tank' and 'Build a Shed'...
