Default Nitto 555R 315/35/17 on stock 17" rims?? Help please

Can anyone help my *** out?

I have a 2001 Camaro SS - w/ Stock Wheels & Tires 275/40/17

I ordered 2 Nitto's 555R Drag Radial's for my rear 315/35/17 .. should i send em back?

3 Shops told me that they were not going to fit or ride right and could be dangerous or whatever.. I found out i should have atleast a 10-12" rim for them and i only have stock 9 1/2". I didnt think it would be a problem .

If they ARE the wrong size.. Whats the biggest size i can slap on back for maximum stick/traction for street/strip with stock 17" rims?? I dont care about wear or rain ..

Thanks

This may be stupid... but i've always thought the stock SS/WS6/Firehawk rims were 17x9, and all the aftermarket wheels are 17x9.5?

Default yea

Yea your right.. thats what i meant to say - Stock 17X9's
Do you know if the Nitto 555r 315/35/17 's will fit? What would be the best size to go with on that stock rim? Should i just get the same size ? 275/40/17

You have em only on the rear? How do they ride when going very fast? I was told they are not safe to be on 17" wheels because they are squeezed on and they bubble up.. Did you have a problem getting em mounted?

Thanks for your help!

You will be much better off going with the 275. The 315 is too big for that rim. Believe me, there is a reason they recommend at least a 10" rim for that size. The 275 will be safer, will perform better, and (IMO) will look better on a 9" rim than a 315 would.
Good luck,
Shane

maybe you could compromise between the two and go with a 285, 295, or maybe a 305.

some people do this. the stock wheel is simply not wide enough. You compromise your cornering ability dramatically by putting in so much sidewall flex which can be dangerous. it also wont get you any better grip than the 275. you really arent putting down much, if any extra contact patch. Some will say the Nitto runs small so its ok...its not

I have 315/35's. I haven't had any problems and can't tell any difference in handling. BUT then again I don't drive like an idiot like I used to either. I usually just ease around town and when I do act stupid its at the track in a straight line so I haven't ha any NEGATIVE effects with these tires at ALL.

If that doesn't work I can try another link but I think thats the right one.

if you want 315s, do it right... get 17x11s... not that I have anything against wider tires

I just looked at the pics of your car. VERY sweet. Looks badass with that wheel size all around. I didn't know you could put 11s up front without rubbing issues when turning...

well, now you know
Lots of people do it in AutoX | RoadRacing.
Actually there is more room in the front to even go wider.. but not the rear.

I ended up returning the 315's and getting 275's for the rear... They're sweet as hell but the only thing is this weather.. they slip like a bitch in this cold weather. Im gonna look for some cheap Eagle F1's for the back so i can save these nitto's for the summer. When you heat these suckers up they stick like ****! You can definitely feel all the power being used. Great Tires.
