Default 285/40/20 on trans am? tallest sidewall?*pics*

ok so i have 20's in the rear , and i want some beefy tires. right now i have 255/35/20's, but there stretched and skinny sidewall. im running stock suspension . i have seen SRT8's run this size of tire, but ive mainly seen them on SUV's. im just wondering if anybody knows what what the widest tallest side wall i can run with 20's? i hope someone can help me out. im ordering tires soon....
main thing is i hate really low profile tires.

does running a taller sidewall then stock screw with ABS and speedo?
just for your info my fronts are 19's but are the exact same height as stock. i plan on having a sloped front end and a standard rear height.....

well, u wanted 20" wheels, so ur stuck with the real low profile tires... u say ur fronts r the same height as stock, what size r they?? also, what width r the wheels, front and rear?
stock tires were 275/40x17... 25.7" tall
ur 255/35x20's r 27" tall, over an inch taller than stock already... 275/30x20's r 26.5" tall, even less of a sidewall... the 285/40x20's that u mentioned, r 29" tall, way too tall...
ur not getting a taller sidewall with 20" wheels...

If your on a 10" wheel go with a 555R 305/35/20, thats what I run(and alot of the GT500 guys) on my 2010 GT500 and its about a 28" tall tire, with a decent sidewall, does not look gay and streteched like most the itty bitty 20" tires guys run. If you are need a street only tire Nitto makes a 315/35/20 NT05 Street tire, that is just a tad taller and wider if you can fit it.

Your tire choices depend on your wheel width, what is it?
295 need a 10", 285 needs a9.5', and a 275 need a 9" wide wheel.
A 295/30/20 (26.97")should be the same height as the 255/35/20s (27.03"), a 275/35/20 is about 27.58" tall, and a 285/35/20, 27.85".

ya the rears are 20x10 , i was actually looking between 285 and 305's , just seems like not very many people are running these types of tires and im concerned whith tire rub... you got pics of the GT500 with those tires?... i would like to see what they look like

ive been considering 285/35/20's , the tires i have now dont have enough sidewall for my taste......i guess i might have to bite the bullet and get some huge tires and hope i run into little problems.....

.....

and as far as running bigger tires then stock , what kind of problems will i face besides speedo and rubbing? my car handles flawlessly with the tires on there now..

Here are a couple of the GT500 on 20"s with 305/35/20 555R's mind you the GT500 has a bigger wheel well, but a 28" tire has been on F-bodys quite commonly, in fact I am aobut to throw 325/50/15 555R's on my CETA

Your best tire selection is going to be a 275/30/19 up front, and a 285/30/20 rear.
A 295/35/20 will fit the rear, but you'll likely have clearance issues since the tire is so tall;28.13'' tall.

IMO, if you really want taller sidewalls consider stepping down to a 19" rear wheels, or better yet a 18s front and rear.
