Default SIX Year Old Drag Radials...Still OK?

I just bought a used pair of 255/50/16 Mickey Thompson ET Street drag radials. When they arrived, I checked the date code and discovered they were made in late '04, so they're 6 years old. I'm not worried about the safety issue since they're radials, but how well will they hook? Will they "come back" after a good burn out? They're in GREAT shape and they're only supposed to have 80 miles on them with no track passes, but the age does have me a little concerned...

It all depends on where they were kept that whole time. Are they cracking? Does the rubber look good? If they aren't cracking and look good they will be fine.

Yeah I would check really good for dry rot. If they were stored really well I wouldnt be too worried.

The MT's are actually in FANTASTIC shape! No cracking, dry rot, or anything...lots of tread left too. Their age is/was my ONLY concern with them.

A two year old tire doesn't fail due to age. Something else went wrong (defect, road debris, etc., etc.).

Your tires should be just fine. If they are not showing any age then they are good to go. Have fun with them they help out a lot.
