Default How do Nitto 555s do in cold temperatures and rain?

My car is a year round daily driver, and I need new rear tires for my 17x11 ZR1s. There are no all-season tires that are made in 315/35R17, so I'm either gonna have to drive on summer tires in the winter, or trade someone for their 17x9 ZR1s. A buddy of mine DDs a Fox body with Nitto NT-555 street tires (not drag radials) and he says they're fine even in the winter if you drive like a sane person. We don't get much snow in Virginia so that's not an issue.

Does anyone have experience with the 555s in rain, freezing temperatures, etc.? I see lots of threads on the 555Rs but not the regular street tire. Any input would be appreciated.

They do fine in the rain. Just use common sense and dont get on it on wet roads.

Oh trust me I drive like grandpa even when it's just damp out, already had one bad experience on a wet road and don't want to have another.

Mine are great in the rain. No problems with hydroplaning or anything like that.

Good traction as long as I don't get on the gas too much off the line, but with these cars you'll have that issue with any tire in the wet.

While I figure these would be fairly useless in any kind of snow, I've driven them in below freezing temps with no problems. In those conditions I DO drop my cornering speeds a few mph though.

They do great I rode 60k on my last set and was cutting 1.9 60's at the track before I got rid of them.

I have these tires are they work fine in the rain. Like the others have said, just take it easy with the throttle. I live where winter temperature average in the low 30's in the mornings and the tires are fine. I am careful though.

I have the 555r's and they are great in the rain. I just drove them 60 miles in a down poor rainstorm at 65 mph and they were perfect.

Of course the bigger the tire usually the more problem you will have with hydroplaning

Nitto 555 Extremes are friggin GREAT in the rain...............been using 275/40/17's up front for 9 years, they are simply awesome in the rain. I've always used GS-D3's in the rear 315/35/17......but had to get 315/35/17 Nitto 555 Extremes for the rear this last tire change.

Absolutely great in the rain, I never ever lose traction.......and we have daily monsoons down here.

But you will find NO tire better than the GY GS-D3.........they are sick awesome.
