2.5inch wheel spacer for 3 inch shorter axles ok?

2.5inch wheel spacer for 3 inch shorter axles ok? I hate to run spacers but I'm going to have to for 2 miles. Is there enough room to run a 2.5 inch spacer instead of a 3 inch one on a rear with the sides cut 3 inches? Stock 275 rims.
