Default heres an offset question

I just got a set of wheels for my GTO. the problem is that they stick out approx. .300" outside the quarters and fenders. what would be the best way to get a little more backspacing out of the wheels? can I mill the back of the mounting surface? maybe have .100" taken off the face of the rotor? any advice is welcome!

I once tried to fit some really wide wheels on a '77 Firebird I owned way back then. I was looking at a set of American Racing rims, and they had what appeared to be a really thick center, and like you, I thought I could just mill them down a little, and essentially change the back spacing of the wheel. Furthermore, I even had access to a lathe where I worked, that would allow me to do this.

I contacted AR, and told them of my idea. Long story short, they freaked out! They explained that they generally don't add any more material that what is structurally necessary, in order to manufacture a safe wheel. Therefore they STRONGLY recommended that I do not mill the center hub of the wheels.

I'm sure that your wheels might fall into this category also. For the record, what kind of wheels are they?

Good to know, Leadfoot - I never heard a good answer to that question and always (incorrectly) assumed it was ok. Thanks!
