Default widest tire for 17" wheel w/o modification?

What's the widest tires you can run outback without having to bfh ,roll,or grind anything?

Plan on getting either (F) 17x9.5/ (R) 17x11 ZR1's or 17x9.5 C6 Z06 with tax money. I was thinking 275's???

Would I need any spacers or anything?

Depends on the offset of the wheels and whether or not the car is lowered but assuming stock height with 50mm offset 17x11s, you could use a Sumitomo or Nitto DR in a 315 without much, if any, modifications...

You could technically throw 315s on without doing anything, but they will rub ever so slightly every once in a while. But it's nothing dramatic, I've got a couple polished spots in my fenderwells where they've been rubbing, and if I've got weight in the back and go over a big bump they hit the fender lips (although I'm lowered so that certainly doesn't help). If you jack the car up by the body then the bumpstops contact the wheels, but I almost always jack it up by the axle so that's not an issue.

I'd say the widest tires you could go with no issues at all would be 295s, maybe 305s.

buddy of mine stretched 335's on his 17s with spacers but that was really pushing it. 315s max i think on a 17x10.5 or 17x11

Yea I am not lowered..yet don't plan to be untill next year. Or so I don't think I am lowered. Picked up the car last year, seems to sit a bit low, but maybe that's because of the ground effects

Now what exactly would you be hammering? Heard the phrase over and over.

You'd just be hammering in the polished spots Latch referred to. Wherever it looks like it'd rub, beat it in
