Opinion on older tires
So I bought a set of really nice 10 Spoke SS wheels and the guy threw in a set of 275 Goodyear gatorback tires all of which have 50% tread remaining. My main concern is that the compound is very hard and almost seems to be like a rock. Also the shoulders have hairline cracking in them. Are these things shot or should I get a another year out of them. I'm leaning towards a new set of BFG's.

IF they have cracking they're shot, It would be okay to use them a bit but id be really careful and stay off the highway. Get new tires ASAP. Dry rotted tires are dangerous! Ask me how i know.

Good heavens!! Get rid of those old Gatorbacks. They stopped making those in the 80's if I remember correctly. Could be quite dangerous for you or others on the highway.
I have a set of the G-Force on my GT (came new with the car) and I'm pretty impressed with them especially since I am a solid Goodyear guy over the years. You would be happy with them if you are leaning that way.
