Default Where to get '98-'02 SS wheels?

I'd like to upgrade the wheels on my Camaro, the snowflake wheels arne't cutting it anymore. Economy cars come stock with 17 inch wheels now, so my 16 inchers look pretty small.

Anyone have any idea where I can get a new set of SS wheels? I'll even take a used set in good condition for a good price.

Also, will I have to recalibrate the PCMfor 17 inch wheels? Or will the MPH not be off enough?

If you get 275/45/17 it will not mess up the odomoter. No need to recalibrate anything.

That's right, the tire height will be the same.

Yes. For 17x9 wheels you will need the size that Nathan specified, 275/45/17. A little more expensive than 245/50/16 but still reasonable.

You definitely do NOT need 275/45/17 sized tires. You want to get 275/40/17, which was the stock tire size for an SS.

If you go with 275/40/17 you will not need to change anything with shift points nor speedometer readings. The height difference is only .01" (25.65 vs 25.66) between your stock 245/50/16 tires and the 275/40/17 SS sized tires.

Cool, thanks for the input. Just wondering, why are the tires for the 17 inch wheels so much more expensive?

Because, the SS 17's need 275's compared to the 245's that you have on your car now, it's just a beefier setup.

Tires for larger diameter wheels are more expensive, even with identical width. This is odd to me since with a shorter sidewall the tire uses less rubber. Is it because the sidewalls have to be stronger?

I think you are correct.

I am sure sales numbers play into the pricing as well.

I think it is because the tire manufactures can charge more and justify that the mold used for them cost more regardless of about of rubber used to make them.

In other words they charge more because they can.
