Default Skinniest tire on 16x8 rim

So what is the skinniest tire that an be mounted?
I've been googling and have found no definitive answer.
185? 295? 215?

It looked goofy as **** but Ive seen a 215/45 on a 16x8 wheel - the section width is only 7" so the tires looked really 'stretched'

Being on the safe side I wouldn't go any skinnier than a 225 (I'm unfortunately running those in the front now), I've seen people fit tires that have no business being on certain rims, but it just doesn't seem safe to me.

Ok thanks!
Looks like 225 it is!

I can't afford drag wheels so I'm putting skinnier tires on the front and ET streets on the rear.
