Default N555Rs for Road Trip. Opinions?

Going to Tennessee from Florida (1200mi) roundtrip and wondering if it would be a bad idea to keep my drag radials on? They maybe have 300 miles total on them with zero track passes. I know these are the best for rain tread but I'm a very cautious/paranoid guy and I guarantee I will hit rain at some point. What are your guys' thought? Should I buy a set of N555 street tires or will I be fine with the radials? Thanks!

Depends, if you have access to another set of wheels with street tires, I'd go that route. But, they will make it. It's not like they're going to wear down to the wires and explode on the road trip from plain driving.

But If long road trips was something you're going to do often, maybe investing in a set of street tires.

No its not often, just coming home from a deployment and going to see friends/family. Do this once maybe twice a year.

I just drove 750 miles on my 555r's about a month ago and I dd the car, they did great and still have alot of life left on them. If you hit rain then just slow down to 60ishmph and don't get crazy with the right pedal.

Glad your back safe and go see some family and friends!!

X2 glad your back brother.

keep an eye on the tire pressure. Drag radials tend to fluctuate quite a bit from the added heat.

ya i would be concerned with the sustained heat over an 11 hour drive causing an issue with the tire. Keep an eye on the tire pressure at each pit stop. but I would rather have a street tire for long drives.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll get a tire pressure gauge before I head out. I'll probably take a half hour break when I stop for fuel to let them cool down. Pretty stoked about the long drive. It's been a while since I've drove anything without armor on it

Ok they are do not have except vincesSS 6 sets rain and snow 20k per set no big if they are wide watch for hydroplaneing as with any tire. Heat? Tire pressure! I worry about tire pressure in all vehicles nothing special on nittos. Find a busa or two to race on the way!!

I do have full coverage.but snow is touchy depending but everything that I have had 305's or bigger has had to be careful. I think alot of it is driver. The 555r is a good daily driver performance tire

They should make the trip. I would be really cautious if it rains. They are molded with 6/32nds and a low void tread pattern. It won't take much to get them to float. I was in an absolute downpour with mine one time. I had to slow down to about 45 and keep the car in 5th (4.10 rear gears) to keep some engine braking in it. Wrecking just wasn't worth it to me.

I drove my car 2,000 miles over 2 days on 315/35/17 555r's. A couple/few hundred of those miles were in a pretty good rain. It was fine.

New they have enough tread depth to be safe in the rain. And I wouldn't worry about them overheating and failing. They're fine until they get substantially worn or the weather turns cold.

I used to daily drive my car with 555Rs and I had no issues at all, even in heavy rain. Just slow down a bit on wet pavement and be careful with the gas, brake and steering wheel.

IF you get caught in the rain, find a semi to tuck in behind at 60 stay in 5th and you'll have almost no problems. Even then be cautious at bumps/bridges anywhere water settles and quickly if you're in a downpour. I've DD'ed my 555R's for awhile now and had no problems with the interstate or rain minus the fact that the heat and tire pressure at the end of a 60mile interstate jaunt at 70+ has nearly eaten all the center tread away. As for traction in rain... they're better in the water from a stop than street tires LOL. (again low void so don't go expecting that at normal interstate speeds). I start at 18PSI cold every morning... and am still having trouble with center wear with my interstate miles.. check check and check again your PSI throughout the trip. start with 18-20 to be safe for that long trip. I wouldn't let it creep much past 25 at a max either.. but that's my preference.

You will be fine... they were designed to be driven on like a street tire.
