Default Tire choice (3 sets) for 17x9.5/11

Getting some 17x9.5/11's, I have 3 tire sets all priced roght around the $700 mark. Let me know your thoughs and maybe a reason behind your answer. Looks obviously is important, but I think more importantly is the traction and tread life. I understand that you can't have your cake and eat it too, but a person can only hope for the best. Car is a toy, only driven in dry conditions, and goes to the track about 4 times a year.

1st set:
Toyo tq drag radials 315/35/17
Sumitomo HTR Z III 275/40/17

2nd set:
Nitto NT05R 315/35/17
Nitto NT05 275/35/17

3rd set:
M/T DR II 315/35/17
Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 275/40/17

Set #2. Only becasue I wouldn't put Sumitomos on my car, and have never understood buying good rear tires, and crap front tires.

+1.

I've never understood anyone spending thousands of dollars making their car go fast then cheap out on tires.

if you're only at the track 4 times a year, i would switch the 2nd set with 555R rears and 555 fronts.......might be a little bit less $$$ too....the 555R's will hook at the srtip with a good burnout and get you nearly 20k miles on the street, long as you don't roast them at every stop sign......i've read the Nt05r's only get 6-8k........i seen a thread where a guy said he ran his 555R's at 30psi on the street and the centers wore out first, so i run mine at 25-26psi and they're wearing evenly....either way, just a suggestion.....of the tires listed i would go with the 2nd set

I don't want to run the 555r's as they run small. I thought about the regular 555's and use them as street weheels and tire, but I'm going to drag race with these as well. My car 60ft's low 1.6's.

The front tires I'm not too worried about. All they are is a filler between the street and my wheels, I don't need performance out of them. Sumitomo's wear good and are quiet, that's all I need.

I just need a good tire to hook and a front tire tread design that kind of matches.

Just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on the hoosier 315/35/17 DR? I remeber having a set of their quick time pro's once on my old street/strip car. They hooked good, but I don't remeber them lasting very long. That was 7 years ago though.

Set #2 is your best choice. Great drag radial and you have a matching front tread pattern, they are a great tire and that would be my pick.

I'd get nitto 555s on the front. Price is right.

I personally like the MT's because they hook like a ****.

But if you are doing mainly street driving stuff
then I would go with the Nitto R's
