What 250ft/lbs does to your studs

What 250ft/lbs does to your studs
I had my front wheels/tires road force balanced at a national chain store. I wont mention any names but they sell Tires at a Discount.
Long story short, I took the wheels/tires off and needed a 4' breaker bar to get the fronts off. For ***** & giggles, I used my torque wrench on one lug nut, kept increasing by 10ft/lbs until it broke free - 250 was the winner
They (the shop) didnt put up a fight and wrote me a check for $42 - four studs and all new lug nuts

Looks like they crossthreaded, and galled the hell out of em. I dont even know if the stock studs could take getting torqued to 250 ft/lbs... Idiots.
Honestly, with some of the people that work in places like that, I wouldnt be suprised if they just threw the nut in the socket of the impact, and just drove em on.. Some people dont think starting them by hand matters.

I had the same company that sells tires at a discount mount 4 tires for me in Lakeland about two months ago. I asked them what torque they used and the guy told me 100 Ft/lbs.

Thats what the manager told me and even showed me the torque wrenches sitting at every station... and no ****, that very moment some nascar pitcrew wannabe directly behind us ran every nut on a Buick Rendevouz with an impact, holding each one a good 2sec. We both stood there and watched and when the guy was through, the manager turned to me and said "how much did you say those parts were?" and walked straight to his office

I don't think they would. I had my truck in to a GM dealer near me several times for tire rotations and the same thing happened. We tried to remove the lugs with a 400ft/lb impact at 120psi and wouldnt do it. We needed to stand on a 3' breaker bar. I had them replace the lug nuts once. I took it back again to have the tire replaced and they did it again. F-ing retards. Never again. Just sucks cause you trust anyone and I don't have 20k mount and balance equipment.

Depends what rear end you have.
I have a 96 10 bolt with a factor traction control system.
Pain in the *** to change studs because you have to drain the diff fluid and take a clip out of the rear end, allowing the entire axel to come out....all to change a three dollar stud.
I believe non traction control cars you just pound them out and pound then back in.

I don't care that they are a sponsor here, they need to hire people who give a ****, the place that has discounts on tires damaged my CCW Classics because some teenager though it was a good idea to hit the center caps out with a wrench, completely ******* them up.....
