I *just* put a set of 16x8s over LS1 brakes on the back of my TA, and I don't know if I'd go any smaller. It looks like a real tight fit. Are your calipers striking the inside face of the wheel? If so, you might try a spacer.

^^^ This, there is no point to keep grinding without knowing what your trying to achieve. Throw some paint on the caliper and then put the wheel on, spin it or drive a short distance, pull it off and see where you need to grind. Plenty of people run those wheels so just keep working on it but don't make your brakes dangerous by continued aimless grinding. My .02¢
That is the correct backspace for that size wheel so in theory you should not have to grind to damn much ya know. Check the wheel itself for defects to is the only other thing I can think of.

^^^using some type of grease in small portions and just bolting up the wheels to spin by hand would cause less damage to the wheel if there is more grinding to be done.
