Default Tire Question

I just my wife new wheels and they have brand new Conti Extreme DWS tires in the stock Camaro size of 275/40/20 on the rear.

Her fronts need replacing 245/45/20. But here is the issue. Conti extreme DWS in that size are 500 dollars for two. But I found Kumho ASXs for 400.

She is worried about non matching tires. i say cheaper is cheaper for non performance tires.

Also I found out that they have a sale on the Kumhos but in size 255/45/20. Now I know they are slightly wider and taller(there is room). but would there be any reaosn to NOT go to these as they are just over 300 for the pair.

Thoughts and opinions welcomed and requested.

You get what you pay for in tires. I buy the best tires I can find and have never had an issue with them.

she has the DWS already on the rear and isnt drag racing or any other form of racing.

her G8 sees full htrottle mostly when I drive it.

The bigger question is there an issue going from a 245/45/20 to a 255/45/20.

I did the calculator. And its less than a .5" difference in diameter.

Mismatched tires can cause adverse handling effects and 1/2" is enough to make the traction control/ABS throw a warning.

This is for a G8 with Camaro 20s. And even with the wider/taller 255/45 its still well under .5"

My V has more than a .5" difference and I have no issues.

Really need her to hear it from other people.

A lot of people have had trouble running mismatched tire sizes so that's what I'm going by. I wouldn't do it so you're talking to the wrong guy.

Will it work, yes. Is it ideal, no. Not only is the DWS a better tire as you mix tread patterns the levels of grip front and rear change and can cause an imbalance to the handling. While these are close enough to be exceptable I would recommend matching. This also keeps your wife happy which is not a bad thing to consider.
