Default can't find anyone to widen my speedlines at the lip

i know there's enough meat on the outer lip of speedlines to work with, but every shop i talk to wont do it. i love the wheels, but if i can't find anyone to do this, i'll use some 96-97 painted WS6 wheels and widen them from the inside.

I'm not worried about metal color inconsistencies, because I'm powder coating them grey.

That seems like it would be difficult to accomplish without taking the center off of the barrel and putting into a new barrel. I would love to see it though.

Those are my FAVE OEM, f body wheel, and I would NOT mess with them (except for the powder coating/painting you are doing) given their rarity/cost.

They're not rare. lol

They're my fave too, which is why I'm going to great lengths to make them suite my needs.

So he went to all that work and couldn't use them after all that work. That blows.

That's the exact color I would also want mine painted, with NO polished lip as well.

If I ever could bring myself to widening a set of those, I would want a 'square' setup, 17x10, or 10.5 ALL-AROUND, and not the ever so popular staggered look.

I believe that the issue was that no shop would mount tires on them since the safety bead (or something along those lines) had been modified. It was seen as a safety issue and he had to abandon the idea.

I didn't read his original thread after seeing the picture of that abomination of a wheel. It's not that the shops didn't want to mount tires, rather they declined because it's IMPOSSIBLE. Look where the drop center is

So the only way to do it would be to put a drop center on the inside of the barrels so you can have the wheel reverse mounted.

ADDITIONALLY, there is no "inner bead", or as it's traditionally called, a "safety bead", on the rim, to retain the bead of the tire, when cornering forces are incurred......assuming you could even get a tire on the rim.

I haven't seen these pics in years, it brings back bad memories. I shoulda had tires mounted on these prior to spending time on the filing and coating so I woulda noticed they weren't gonna work

Don't beat yourself up!!

First of all, hindsight is always 20/20, and secondly, any TRUE "car crafter" has a garage full of stuff that didn't quite work out, as well as a thin bank account to prove it............

I didn't widen the wheels myself I had them done by a business that "has done it before". I only smoothed them and coated them myself. I get your point though.
