Default Plasti-Dipped Wheels With A Twist

I have hated my black wheels ever since I bolted them to my car and I finally
did something about it. I picked up some dip from a well known company and
cleaned up my wheels. I tried something a little different, but hopefully it will
work and if I hate it I can change it easily.

These are the only 2 decent pics I got last year after the black ZR1s went on

So here the wheels are cleaned up

After 6 coats of matte black plasti-dip (still wet)

And here is the finished product after 3 light coats of copper metalizer

I tried to do something a little different and I think it turned out really well. I
don't know how long the color will stay the way it is because I think that I will
end up painting them silver. My car is in pieces right now, so no installed pics
for a little while

I think they look good like they are

curious to see if they look better after you dipped them, I've thought about it with my machined lip before

They look better than the black. However, is there a glossy finish that you can add to the plastidip to make them stand out even more? I think a gloss coat will really set them off.

wanna trade for silver Zr1's? I've been looking for black/machined lip.

Otherwise, I'm curious about what they look like on the car, been thinking of doing mine in gunmetal along with the roof/ceta

They look worst to be honest. The polished lips are what gives black wheels character. A solid black or dark color like that makes wheels look cheap to me.

They look good but the polished lip would look even better. They look good though

Interesting... may look good on a darker colored car. Really would like to see pics of them on the car.

I see the pics and they look great, but in your opinion, how do you think that color would look on a Pewter Metallic WS6. I want to Plasti-Dip the centers of my CCW 505a wheels, and I think this color might look killer with Pewter Metallic.

keep the lip polished and i think it'd look great. just do it and peel it off if you dont like it

Sorry no on car pics yet, I just bolted the front fenders back on last night and
have a lot more work to do, but I may put them on tonight to get a reference on
what they will look like.

They look better than the black. However, is there a glossy finish that you can
add to the plastidip to make them stand out even more? I think a gloss coat will
really set them off.
Plasti Dip does make a "glossifer" but I don't care much for it. Some pics I have
seen makes the paint look really fish eyed.

They look worst to be honest. The polished lips are what gives black wheels
character. A solid black or dark color like that makes wheels look cheap to me.

I personally do not like the lip on the wheels and I prefer painted wheels to
not have the polished lip. I think it makes the wheels look smaller. That's
just my opinion.

Thanks everyone for the opinions

I bet that copper with the green could look pretty good. I have been thinking about doing this stuff on my steel wheels on the Expedition. Do you have to scuff the surface?

^^^I could not agree with you more on the above!!
The blingpimp lip look just RUINS painted center wheels for me (maybe that's why I like what most on here would call "ricer-style" fully painted wheels over what is mostly offered for our cars ).

The shade /tint of your wheels reminds me a little bit of the very rare, costly, factory magnesium wheels available during a few of the C5 model years. (Albeit those had different spoke shapes to them.)

I'm the same way. The wheels on my Yukon have a polished lip with a black face and it makes them look smaller than they really are. On my car with the bigger lip on the rear it made it look like it had 15s on the rear and 17s up front. Hopefully painting the whole wheel will bring the proportions back.

The wheels honestly look a lot better in person, I'll try to get some pics of them in the sun if it ever comes out.

My Yukon wheels are next but those are just going to be matte black

Thanks for the kind words

I sprayed several coats of black engine paint followed by several coats of clear over Plastidip on my GXP rims (G8 wheels) for a gloss finish and they look amazing. The finish has held up for over two years without a blemish!

I think you guys are nuts in regards to having a polished lip with painted centers. Yeah, maybe if you have OE wheels that really have no lip to speak of, but if you have high end wheels with a big lip, 3" or more, then I think they look great. In my opinion, all black or other color wheels look very cheap.
