Continental Extreme Contact 285/40R17 - Old School!
I've been running the larger size to get a bit nicer ride
and "fill the hole" better, and just replaced the Cooper
Zeon (old style, similar to GS-D3 tread) with these
Continentals; one of the few mfrs who offer the 285
in a performance tire.
These tires are taller and not quite as over-width as
the Coopers, on the chrome SS 10-spoke rim they look
proper width-wise. They also look like they're about a
50-series, which is fine by me; if I could have found a
50-series in a 275 width and high speed rating I would
have ordered that.
Here's what they look like (car is lowered -1" front, -3/4
or so rear).

I've had the Extreme Contact DW on my rears for about 4 months and I've loved them so far. Just did put them on the fronts as well. Great tire for the money. Especially for a daily driver

I'm running the newer DWS, factory size, on my DD '02 SS.
While they might not be as purely performance oriented as the DW model, they are still an excellent tire that comes with a 50K mile warranty.
I switched to these after running factory size Falken Ziex, HUGE difference. These grip better on launch and in corners, plus they actually feel safe to drive in rain. Great tire, especially for the price, which was only marginally higher than the DW when I bought them about 2 months ago.

I always liked conti tires... How much taller are they ?
Love the brake, good to see it gets driven.. Ppl always ask me if I ever drive my car or I'm OCD with cleaning the insides and outsides of my wheel.. I tell them both

I've had those same 285's on my car as well - in addition to the almighty Eagle F1 GS-D3's and some cheap Firestone Indy 500's (they sucked) that a salesman talked me into.
I must agree - the Continental Extreme Contact DW's are located at a great intersection of price and handling characteristics - almost as good as the Goodyear Eagle's but without the huge hit for the price.
I know you'll like them!

I've used these same model tires on my subaru. They are great as long as you don't push them for extended periods. I melted mine on one trip to deals gap. The treads were deformed and the tire had begun to slip on the rim during real hard trail braking into tight corners.
