Losing power/accelaration with 18" wheels vs 17" wheels
My car just feels so much slower on 18s vs stock 17s? I never weighted in my 17s but I did weight in my 18" replica chrome Z06 rims with 285 35 18 Kumhos @ 51lbs each. Are 17s really that much lighter or is it that 1" in size that makes the big difference or is it all in my head!? Im wanting to go back to 17s because of this but not sure if its worth it? Anyone has any idea/experience with this? Should I stay where Im because it isnt that big of a loss or am I legit to think 17s will get me going faster? Appreciate all replies guys...

Well not sure which factory 17's you have but my 10 spoke SS's currently weigh 45lb each w/ tire. That's 24lbs x's 5 = 96lb rotating mass less then your 18's... That's about a .1 and maybe a mph in the quarter mile. I'd say its in your head or something is going on with ur car

I'd say its all in your head. if you had 295s or 315s in the back and 285 or wider in the front, i would say you are definitely losing speed not power. you have a larger contact patch on the ground and have a larger rotational mass to turn. If you have stock power and have 315s on the back would lose a fair amount of speed and get up and go. Not power though. Notice how the drag cars have narrow *** tires on the front, less of a contact patch, great for straight line but you want to go around a turn best to have as close to the same contact patch as possible. for examlple a common drag car 15X4.5 in the front 15X10 in the rear. Auto X car set up 275/40 front and rear. or close variant. I personally will have 18X10 on all for corners but I will also have well over 600rwhp at that time to compensate for the extra rotational mass.

Yeah true, I havent lost any power just speed it felt like...Idk I think it is just in my head!? Im wanting concave wheels and thinking about getting TSW Tanakas, just wasnt sure if I should go 17 or 18...?

what are the tire sizes??
the overall diameter is what makes a difference.
you can have 17,18 and 19s next to each other mounted with the correct tires you will retain the stock tire diameter.
weight, eh not really. how much can one wheel weigh to the next.
10-15lbs is the extreme and its not causing a huge loss if any.
wheel i diameter is what u need to look at.
also, you can run 33s on a F-body and have no issues with the right gear set.
swap your gears and the whole car will act and accelerate differently and be much more fun.
it will feel like you gained HP.

If you changed your tire diameter it also can effect your gearing which could cause the car to accelerate slower combined with a heavier wheel and tire it could make a little difference.
