Default Tires for 15x10, 17x7 combo

Hi,
I'm ordering new rims and tires in 2-3 weeks after I return from vacation. I can't stand my giant Z06 rims anymore. I've decided on the rims I want, but keep waffling on what tire size/brands to order. I'd like to hear about your experiences with tire brands and sizes for a 15x10, 17x7 setup on a stock A4 2000 SS. Mine's 80-90% street, sees some colder days below 50 degrees, but never sees rain or snow. Future plan is to replace the rear at some point and add more power once my student loans are paid off.

Thanks for your help!

I would put a 225 size tire on the fronts and run a 275/50/15 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial on the rears.

My rims are currently being shipped and I'm definitely going with MT's for the rear. As for fronts my options for a 225 tire are Hankook Ventus v12 evo, Bridgestone Potenza RE760, BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW, BFGoodrich G-Force Sport Comp-2, or Continental Sport Contact 3 or 5. If i go to a 205/55, than there's a Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. Opinions or experience on which one to choose? Thanks!

The Hankooks. KDWs are the 2nd cheapest. I wasn't really thinking about price as new rims and tires are this year's birthday/Christmas gifts to myself. :-) Just want something fun and can handle some hard cornering. But if there isn't much of a difference in performance between any of them on the street or strip, then lowest price point would win.

Unless you know of one that is heads and tails above the rest, as long ss the cheapest tire has good reviews, I'd go that route.

Looks like I'm going with the cheapest, even if I wanted something else. I suspect I damaged my transmission pump last night... ::sigh:: On my way home late last night, decided to launch the camaro onto interstate to let off some steam from a super crappy day. Transmission felt liked it kind of slipped right after I started to lay down some rubber. Let off the gas, shifted fine, but a terrible whining noise started. It corresponds with acceleration, deceleration and did it in park above 1,500 rpm. I shut it off, let it cool down for a bit, car was still warm when started again, but didn't hear the whining that time when revved in park. Time to go to a different forum section...

You sure it's not the rear-end whining?

I'm a noob mechanic. But, I thought the rear end was disengaged when in park? So it would not whine when in park if revved, if the the rear was the issue, right? Or will the rear whine in park too? I didn't think anything would be moving in the rear unless in gear. Since it whined in park when I got home, it makes me think the issue is in front of the drive shaft somewhere. :-/

Didn't read it well enough I guess. No, the rear will not whine in park. Hopefully the tranny is not too hurt.

A 17x7 with a 225 rire will be fine for cornering in my opinion. I doubt he's going to be doing autocross with this setup, but highway and country road driving, he'll be golden. Perfect street/strip front wheel size in my opinion.
