Default 17x11 CCW on 2002 Trans Am 36mm vs 50mm offset

I am looking at two sets of 17x11 CCW for my '02 Trans Am and I have gathered that going with 36mm offset (7.5 inch backspace) will bolt on without spacers or BFH and allow me to rotate. My question is to whether going with 50mm offset (8 inch backspace) will prevent the wheel/tire combo from sticking outside of the fender as much? It seems that going with 50 will require BFH and spacers but I am wondering if this combo will keep them from sticking past the fender lip as much as the 36mm. Sorry for the simplicity of the question but I have been trying to figure this out as I am currently looking at picking up either a set of the 36mm or the 50mm. Thanks guys.

I had 17x11 with 50mm on my Trans am and it was perfectly flush with the top of fender line, they sat perfect on the car. I tried a 11" wheel with 38mm( oem 89-95 ZR1 size) and it stuck outside the top of the fender line to the point of looking ridiculous. At the time I didnt care about the bumpstop, so I just beat the fender wells, rolled the fender lips and the cut bumpstop out, centered the rear, and did NOT use a spacer. When I do my 12" wheels Im just gonna bfh and move the bumpstops in a bit rather than cut them out. Not a fan of spacers, do the little work you need to and they're not needed.

What spacers did you use when you did the 17x11 w/ 50mm on your Trans Am. BFH? Spindle nub grind?

No spacers at all. Wait, is your question pertaining to putting 11" wheels on the front as well? If so, I had 9.5" wheels on the front so cant help ya there.

Yes I am looking at 17x11 for the front as well (road race square setup). That is good to know that the 50mm went on the back with no spacers and was flush without sticking out past the fender though. Did you have to BFH the rear? What tires?
