Default widest 16" wheel?

The 16" wheels that came on f-bodies, are the widest they go stock 8"? Right now I run SS 10 spokes on my z06 for drag wheels, but I'd like to run a 16 for more side wall. I dont want to put a 275 on a 8" wheel so worst case I stick with the 10 spokes.

I don't know what you're getting at, in a way. Are you looking to run wider, 16" tires, and want to know if they'll work on the OE 8" wide rims. If so, I'd say, "Not really". The originally spec'd 245/50/16s were the MAX width tire for that rim. If you want to go wider on the tires, you'd really need to go wider with the wheels. Only problem, no "mass marketer" makes 16" wheels any wider that 8", at least in an offset that will work on an F-bod.

At one time, I had a set of 16x9.5" wheels on my Z-28, that I had purchased from CCW, but they were a lot more expensive than anything you'd get at Jegs, Summit, or e-bay.....

You may well be, but are you talking about street/autocross tires or drag tires? Drag tires do use a narrower rim, to get the sidewalls to flex.....
