Help pick tires
Well I am looking at getting some new tires and am trying to decide which would be best for me. The car is a 99% street car, but I hope to make a trip to the strip and auto-x track on these same tires. They will only see around 2k miles per year. I have pretty much full bolt-ons and made 350 RWHP and 365 FT-LBS before I recently added a UDP. For suspension the car has the SLP Bilstein level 2 package, and a MWC long torque arm with relocation transmission crossmember. For comparison I have old bfGoodrich g-force kdw's and they have no traction in first, and will break loose in second, and if shifting hard third. I'm not sure if this is just due to age though, as they were on the car when I bought it 2 years ago
I'm looking for the best combination of straight line grip, cornering ability, ride quality, and road noise. I live in Minnesota, so they will be on the car in the garage which could dip below 15° in the winter. This makes me worried about any R compound tire.
Here are a few specs I gathered on the tires I am looking at, all are 275/40r17. Nitto NT05, Falken RT615K, Mickey Thompson Street Comp, BFG G-force T/A KDW, and the Kumho Ecsta XS. Please post up any experience you have with these, or which you think would be best and why.

I'd probably agree with you. If Nitto is a preference I'd probably go with the NT555 since the car will be 99% street driven and would perform better than the NT05 on slippery/wet roads. BFG G-force sport comp 2 should be a possible selection too. If you expect a lot of cold weather/winter driving even if never in the snow, an all season-ultra performance tire might be better.

I guess I should have added that I am not concerned at all with wet traction, and do not want all seasons. The car sees 2k miles a year, and is only driven in the summer when it is dry.
I will look into the DW's

You should look into the Dunlop Dirrezza ZII, Hankook RS3, and Bridgestone RE11. Basically it sounds to me like you want an extreme performance series tire.
My buddy is currently running the ZII on his 2013 Mustang 5.0 and it dead hooks any gear. This car is making 455rwhp btw.

I don't like that they have the highest tread wear, and to me the least attractive tread pattern. I don't need the Wet part either...
That's what I was thinking. How many miles do you have your NT05's and how are they holding up? Also how is the road noise?
None of them come in our size of 275/40/r17, at least with my quick search at tire rack.

NT05s
Yokohama AD08s
Bridgestone RE-11s
I'd look at those 4. I have the AD08s and NT05s on my cars right now. The NT05s are better for driving around (less noise and less harsh) and the AD08s are better for all out grip. RE-11s are close to the AD08s but are slightly less harsh and the PSS are probably just the best overall tire you can buy. The price reflects this as well.

IMO,Continental ExtremeContact DW gets my vote; BEST bang-for-the-buck!
FYI, a pretty tread pattern doesn't improve performance one bit.

IMO, get the Michelin Pilot Super Sports, if price isn't a concern.

I have no doubt they are the best all around tires, but that is just too much for me to spend.
Thanks for the review, I believe the NT05's are the only ones that come in a 275/40/r17 size.
I will look into the DW's more, the 340 tread wear makes me worry that they would provide less traction than the others listed.

Those PS2's are an excellent choice too. My friend had a E93 M3 with those and they did wear fast (BMW has weird geometry on their IRS), but the traction was great. However, I did notice that when they do break loose they can get very squirly, could've been his weird IRS geometry.
The DW's, just because they are rated for wet too doesn't make the dry traction bad. They are actually very very good, I've read people cutting 1.8 60' times on those, impressive for a street tire IMO. Best bang for your buck. They grip better than my DWS's and I literally have to drop the clutch at over 5000rpms in 1st to break them loose, I'm pushing 414rwhp.
I've also heard great things for the NT05's, but aren't those drag radials? If so, that would take away from the turning capability vs PS2's or DW's..

If you're looking at prices the Continental DW and BFG KDW's will run a bit more money than the BFG G-force comp 2's. I'd also consider the $60-$80 mfg coupons that BFG/Michelin, Continental, Goodyear, Firestone, Dunlap, Falken, Pirrelli and others are running. I don't know if Nitto is offering anything right now as I couldn't find anything. But, they did offer coupons/rebates in Spring and Fall of 2013 on selected tires So not getting a coupon here would be like paying an extra $60-$80. If there is a Nitto rebate it's sometimes through sellers like Tire Kingdom, Merchant’s or NTB’s locations.
Goodyear doubles the $80 rebate if you go through particular tire dealers....others might too. Some of the big wholesale clubs might offer individual coupons this time of year. The current Continental coupon is for a hotel stay....not cash/cash rewards card. If Continental or Nitto were offering "cash" discounts that I could use (or find) I might have gone with them. As it was, I just bought a set of BFG Comp 2's and my car hasn't seen rain in 2-1/2 years. If all the coupons go through that will be $550 out the door w/4 wheel thrust alignment (sales tax included).

Both R comps/DR.
Thanks for the info, feel free to PM me which dealers double the coupon if they are not a sponsor.
