Default Nitto comparison on drag radials. NT555R vs NT05 vs NT01

I have had experience with the NT555R drag radials. The have good performance, decent wear for a drag radial, and you can actually drive them if you get caught out in the rain.

I'll be stepping up the power considerably and want to find out more info on the NT05, and NT01 Drag radials.

Can you still drive them safely at highway speeds in the rain? Do they last anywhere the same as the 555R drag radials? Are they so sticky that I should be concerned about picking up road debris (this has happened to others I have had in the past such as some MT drag radials that were really sticky).

I am trying to find what the best DR will be out of these for street driving and giving me decent traction.

I have had the nt555r in the past, now have the nt 05r and they are a really nice tire, I have about 30 track passes on them and about 5,000 mi and they are just about done. I will be throwing a new set of the 05r on come spring. As far as driving in the rain......I don't daily drive my car but got caught in the rain a couple times and they are really not very good in the rain. Actually dangerous I would say on the highway. But everything else is awesome

Thank you for your input. This was exactly the type of info I was looking for.

I also do a lot of street racing and at the track do a long smokey burn out every pass so someone that's nicer to there tires than I am to mine could probably stretch them farther than 5,000 mi. Lol

[2010 Camaro]

I had 555Rs, now NT05Rs. These are lasting a long time, been DD'ing on them all year except for winter. They pick up some debris here and there but nothing crazy. I've gone 1.59 on them with good track prep. Bad track conditions and I'm spinning like a ****.

Thanks Pro Stock John.

It seems the dry traction is obviously better with the NT05. I don't expect much input on the NT01 since it's more meant for road racing (but would love to hear input).

What I'll need to do in the end is just see what will be the best overall tire. I do drive the car a bit, and honestly if you can't drive in the rain with the NT05's that may be the deal breaker. I'm sure the NT05's wear faster, and I don't have a problem buying tires a little more often, but I need to know they won't leave me stranded in a pop up rain storm or become so sticky it is likely I will get a flat.

The NT01 is not meant for drag racing. Stiff sidewall, good luck getting it to hook off the line.

Also SpeedJunkee don't know if your aware of this but there are nt05's and nt05r's . The r is a drag radial and the nt05 is a street tire, same design, much different compounds, figured I would mention it so you don't get the nt05 , do a big smokey burn out at the track then wonder why you can't hook

I had Nitto Extreme 2 R "road racing" radials before. They were meant for the same, and honestly, even though they were not designed for it, they did really well for drag racing. I am guessing the NT01 would be similar, but I don't know if anyone is actually using them on here.

Sweet! I'll look into likely the NT05's. I am hoping they can handle driving in the rain. I love the idea of the NT05R, but I drive it too much on the street to get stranded if it gets wet.

Both are good in rain, though my NT05Rs are worn enough that I am careful in heavy rain.

I have to disagree on the nt05 and 05r being good in the rain, it is a unnecessary risk going down a highway or freeway with them and would not take much of a water patch to kick the *** end out

Wow I totally agree. I can't imagine anyone considering the nt05r good in the rain. I hate the nt05r. Poor traction, poor wear, and biggest complaint is hydro planing. The nt05r reminds me of the BFG drag radials.

I had NTO5 and was pretty disappointed with traction. I was one of those that didn't think there were R version of those.

I DD'ed on NT05Rs never felt nervous in the rain.
