Default Which Slicks For M6 WS6 Making 450+ RWHP

Guys, my Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials will need replaced here soon, and being a M6 car, I've been thinking about making the switch over to a slick. I drive the car mostly on the street, but want to be able to hook up good for street racing, and the occasional trip to the strip. Car should be making 450+ with modifications that will be underway here soon. I have no clue when it comes to slicks. Are they okay to drive on the street? The car only comes out on nice days, so it sees no rain or snow. Stiff wall slick, not a stiff wall slick, I'm lost. Help me out guys. Also feel free to post up links to specific slicks.

I'd only consider slicks if the car sees way more track duty than anything else. That's just my personal opinion

I run M/T ET DRAG 28/10.5 stiff wall. Forgot the part number but will have a S at then end of the number indicating stiff wall. I also ran Hoosier qtp and were nice, also DOT approved. Slicks you will have a bit more wishy washy feel they move a bit. Takes time getting use to it but it's fine. They won't last long on the street. Another option but not the best is the M/T drag radial pro, they also have a Pro bracket and here it is a great tire.

Is this the pro bracket radial you're talking about? How does this tire differ from a Mickey Thompson stiff wall slick, or the Hoosier QTP slicks?

regular ET street. manual cars hate radials. ive been leaving at 6000 on mine and theyve been better to me than my pissed off clutch!
I use 26x11.5s and swap them out for track but theyre okay for street use if its minimal driving. around 18psi and i dont have any wandering feeling ususally associated with a tire like this.

I didn't think of this, but what kind of tire should I run up front? I don't believe you can run a radial up front and a non-radial in the rear. My Dark Stars up front are 17x9.5's. I doubt they make a non-radial tire to fit that size wheel.

It's just a really good radial tire and would be far more streetable then a slick. As far as mix and matching I never had a issue.

Im with Zmg on this one as far as mixing tires goes.
Haven't had an issue and haven't been yelled at on the track yet, and i run a 245/50 street Pirelli on the front.

Id check with your local track officials and see what they say. On a street driven car they might not have an issue. A tube body 8 second bracket car might be a different story.

Sounds like this will be my best option, given my current front tire setup. My ET Street Radials work good, so if this tire is better, sounds like a win to me.

I had good luck with the QTPs, went 1.48s with Koni shocks and an M6 510 rwhp. A few times it dead hooked at over 6000 rpm dump. If you have a loose front shock they should hook up even better. Never did better than a 1.7 on a DR.

It's a ok compromise. If your not max effort I wouldn't run a slick on the street all the time. I think the pro radial or pro bracket would be a ok compromise. Especially if it sees more street duty. Just will not be record setting 60ft times.

I'll probably try the MT Pro Brackets and see how they do. I can't kid myself, the car sees way more time on the street than it does on the track, so I think those will suit me fine.

On a side note, I've always hears that a M6 car should run a slick, while an automatic car works better on a radial. Why is that?

If you street drive the car alot I'd go with a hoosier drag radial. They'll offer more stability on the street from the radial construction, but have a thinner sidewall to promote flex.

It's also unsafe to run a radial up front and a biased ply tire in the rear. I've done it, and it makes the *** end of the car feel like it's going to come around you past 500ft out. Some never have an issue, I personally would never do that again.

In short manual Trans are violent off the launch and a radial doesn't recover like a slick. Even a stiff wall slick has more give then a radial. From what I hear at this time ppl prefer the M/T pro series over the Hoosiers at this time. No experience with either.

Not trying to be an *** but do you do alot of street racing? Maybe your best bet is to grab a set of wheels and tires for strip only?
