Default Different size wheels on front and back??

So I just bought a set of race star wheels and tires. The front tires are 17x4.5 and the rear are 15x10 with drag radials. Why is the set up with two different size wheels? Does anyone know? Is it just for the look or does it help performance some way? Any knowledge would be appreciated!

Skinny wheels up front saves weight and the beefier tires out back help with traction

Larger front wheels also help to clear certain rotor/brake setups as well
