Question 275/40R-17 tires fit on 17x9.5 and 17x11 rims?

I really dont know that much on the tire and rim sizing but can you guys tell me if these tires, which are 275/40R/-17 fit on either of these rims 17x9.5 and on 17x11.Also is there a bigger width tire that can fit on the 17x11 like a 285 or bigger.

Yes.....The 275/40/17 will fit on both the 17x9.5 & the 17x11. I know this because when I first got started in the F-Body scene I ran that tire size in the rear on the 17x11's. I had no clue what I getting into so I went to Merchants for advice. Wrong thing to do They told me 275/40/17 was the absolute widest I could go on a 17x11 rim. Not knowing any better I went with that set up. Waste of money in my opinion. Later I purchased 315/35/17's for the 11's which is what you want for the rear

Not only is the 315/35/17 the proper width for that rim, but it is almost exactly the same height as the 274/40/17 that you would be replacing, so you don't have to worry about recalibrating the speedo, or your car haveing a slight rake forward or backward.

Great thanx for the info.Do the 315's for the 17x11 rims need any special modifications to be done? Also what did you guys use for studs, reason for asking is that a buddy of mine had some 17x11's but he only had like a couple of threads to catch on.I was a little worried about that.I told him how come you dont get any longer studs?Any way Have you folks replaced the stock studs?
