Default Wheel weight

I hear alot on the board about how the aftermarket chrome/polished z06 replica rims are a little on the heavy side. Has anyone ever done an actual weight comparison test of the aftermarket vs. the OEM gunmetal z06 rims? I'm just wondering if they are worth the extra buck they pull. Thanks.

Well I can tell you I went 13.3@108 on stock 16x8's, then I put on my 18x9.5 front and 18x10.5 rears and even though I get tons more traction only pulled a best of 14.04@100. Not really the answer you were looking for but maybe it will help. Oh yeah mine are replicas by the way.

8mph loss in trap speed!!!!!? Are you sure there was nothing else wrong with your car? That seems like an awful lot of speed to lose due to wheels.

still, SS's have 17s and still ran even/better than me in stock trim. 8mph is pretty serious.

Yeah I'm not bullsh***ing. I just went back to the track with my stock 16's and pulled 13.4 @105. Only thing that was changed was the tires. I can't understand it.

I don't know how much the factory Z06 rim weighs, but I do remember from an old GMHTP review of the late model Z06 that the wheels were forged aluminum. The aftermarket versions are nothing more than replicas and are in no way shape or form forged aluminum, because they would have to cost a lot more than they do. The words forged aluminum should ring a bell, because most of the expensive light-weight rims such as Fikses and Forgelines are all forged aluminum. I'm guessing that the factory Z06 rims (front or rear) probably weigh no more than 22 lbs. each. (The factory rear wheels of the 2000+ C5's weighed 20.1 lbs.) I'd definitely take factory over aftermarket any day even if it means a few or several hundred dollars more just because they're so much lighter.
