Default Conflicting info from DTD and Boyd Coddington?

I'm in the process of ordering a set of Boyd Timeless 2's and DTD has told me the best offset is no more than 40mm while Boyd Coddington told me that 20-25mm is what I'm looking for a 17x8. Any input from the offset guys is appreciated. I spoke to a few on the board already and 25-35 seems to be the norm. I want the 17x8 to sit flush like a 45mm 17x9.5 does. Thanks.

John

Hoping Todd will pop in and help me out. I'm ready to order them from DTD as soon as I get the offset issue figured out.

[edit] Yo, Todd is the expert, so I'm gonna remove my incorrect post so there's no confusion...

Good luck - the Timeless 2 wheels rock! (see sig)

lets keep it around +40. Stock was a 8" rim with a 55 offset, so with another 8 and +40 offset you are coming out another .6" from stock. Good look without going overboard.

How would a 8 inch wheel with the 40mm offset compare to a 9.5 with a 45 offset. How much does the width of the wheel play in where the tire will set in regards to the fender. I appreciate the help Todd!

This is how I want the front to sit. It is a 45mm offset 9.5 wheel. Will a 40mm on a 8 inch wheel look like this in regards to position to the fender edge Todd? Thanks.

Thanks for the compliments guys... I (obviously) love the look of the Timeless 2 - not too flashy, but not too common either...

If I'm doing my math correctly, to have the outside face of an 8" wide wheel to look identical to a 9.5" wide wheel with a 45 mm offset, the offset of the 8" wide wheel would be 26 mm . . .

To attempt to explain without a picture. An 8" wide wheel is 1.5" narrower than a 9.5" wide wheel (duh?) So from the center line of the wheel, the face of an 8" wheel is .75" further "into" the wheel well, if the wheels have identical offsets (since offset is the distance from the center line of the wheel to the back of the lug mounting surface). So to get the 8" wheel in the same position as the 9.5" wide wheel it needs to move outwards .75" or 19 mm. So 45 mm minus 19 mm equals 26 mm offset.

56mm 17x9.5 up front
50mm 17x11 out back

I have to run spacers up front to clear my big brake kit, but I assume they'd be fine with the stock brakes.

Xsta,
That is what I came up with along with the guy at Boyd. I guess different people have different opinions than some on wheels fitment. I'm stuck! lol I don't want to do a wheel that will not sit flush, but don't want to go too drastic either. Just not many 17x8's out there to judge by.

I give up! I'm just gonna order 9.5's with a 45mm offset and be done! I just can't spend that kinda money and take the chance of not liking the way the wheel sits. I'll be sure to post pics when I get them installed!

Man you'll be a lot happier with the 9.5's anyways 8 is just to narrow on a f-body IMO
