Start at about 15 psi cold and see how that does on a warm day. You probrably still won't be able to dead hook from a dead stop on the street but a low roll should be no problem.

I actually run my 315s as low as 12psi cold on the street, that's usually what I run at the track so alot of the time I just leave them at that. I have no idea about gas mileage but the tires are wearing nice and evenly and I've never had any other problems other than spinning them on the rim alittle at the track.
BTW: I also ran my old 275s at around 15-20psi all the time and those held up well too.

well theres almost no tread left now. but even when i first had them, they didnt hook well. and since i need new tires now, i dont want to buy them again if i dont think theyll work for me. i might just pick up some more, and try 15 psi on them

It depends what 555 you talking about. There is the regular original 555, which is a true street tire and would never really hook in my opinion but it should last like a regular radial. Then there is the road racing 555RII, which I believe jammon46 is talking about, then of course the 555R. The 555RII and 555R are the exact same compound and tread design, the only differance is that the 555RII has a stiff sidewall instead of the soft sidewall that the 555R has. So basicly the RII and the R will probrably last about the same amount of time.
